Tom Dixon at St James Church for Clerkenwell Design Week

This year for Clerkenwell Design Week, British designer Tom Dixon took over St James Church, on Clerkenwell Green, by installing a stunning series of lighting and furniture. Collaborating with the church’s Vicar Andrew Baughen, the aim was to maximise the potential of the building by making it accessible to the wider community of Clerkenwell as a creative, co-working environment.

The work will be donated to the 17th century church as permanent features once the festival has ended.

Stand out features include Dixon’s sleek Curve lights, which are grouped together inside the main congregation area. The Curve lights have punctured forms that transmit light as a diffused glow, working in harmony with the light emitted from the brightly coloured stained glass window.

Upstairs, a co-working space open to the public is furnished with Dixon’s Wingback dining chairs and Pylon tables, with the Melt chandelier at the centre of the room. The striking smoke carpet was created in collaboration with Ege Carpets from the Industrial landscape collection.
