A brand world is a cohesive universe where design, storytelling, content, and community converge to shape how people experience and emotionally connect with a brand.

“Think of your favorite brand. Beyond the fact that you like what they sell, it might also be a company that inspires, connects, or understands you.
At a time when consumer choice is seemingly infinite, brands that can fully immerse consumers into their narrative are the ones that thrive. It’s no longer enough for a product to just serve its purpose of quenching thirst, feeding bellies, or entertaining us to death. Brands with devoted followings invite consumers into carefully designed ecosystems that go far beyond a single product.
A brand world is a cohesive universe where design, storytelling, content, and community converge to shape how people experience and emotionally connect with a brand. It’s more than a logo or packaging design. Every interaction, from tone of voice to physical spaces and digital touchpoints, becomes part of a larger narrative to create a sense of belonging.
Design and branding have undergone a significant shift. They’ve moved from being product-first, focused primarily on logos, packaging, and the product itself, to an experience-first approach that considers every interaction as part of a larger, interconnected purpose. Previously, a brand’s identity often stopped at the point of sale. Today, the most successful brands build holistic experiences that immerse consumers in a lifestyle or cultural perspective.”
Chloe Gordon’s recent article for Dieline articulates the same philosophy we’ve built our approach on for the last 20 years: why tell people your brand story, when you can show them?

At Formroom, we build brand worlds: the living, breathing manifestation of your company mission, vision and values. We’ve always believed in the transformative power of spaces to bring brands closer to their audience. Beyond basic transactions, tangible environments provide an opportunity for brand expression like no other, where those walking through can experience your brand purpose as if interacting with another person: what they look like, how they sound, where they live, etc. The need for physical stores hasn’t changed, but evolved, to mandate something more meaningful to customers.
Our 2025 Trends Report outlines five fundamental shifts we are seeing in retail and hospitality. Today, brands are no longer selling simply products, but an experience, a feeling, and a world that their customers can step into – a brand world built on their strong cultural narrative that connects people to something larger than the product itself.
So how can brands create a more meaningful brand world for their customers?
- Get hyper focused on your niche. What is one thing you do (or want to do) really well? Be inspired and become known for it.
- Think anti-demographic and pro-interest. Age no longer defines a target audience; shared interest is a more powerful (and inclusive) unifier.
- Set some anti-commercial goals. People see through product-pushing tactics and want to be in spaces that feel creative and communal versus capitalist.
- Celebrate craftsmanship. Energy, effort and attention to detail can’t be faked. Make your brand world memorable by caring to spend the time.
- Exist for the greater good. Sustainability is a given, so don’t brag about it. How else are you making the world a better place?
Building on decades of work in design and production for some of the world’s biggest brands, we believe the best concepts are inspired first by a clear, strategic insight, translated into design elements that are uniquely ownable to that brand, and then delivered through multi-sensory moments that makes the experience deeply memorable for customers.
